Quantum Response at Finite Fields

چکیده
We study the response of driven, time dependent, quantum system whose instantaneous Hamiltonian has gaps in its spectrum. We consider the question if the breakdown of quantum transport, and in particular, the breakdown of the Integer Quantum Hall conductance, is a phase transition. We prove that, under mild conditions, quantum response has an isolated essential singularity and a vanishing holomorphic piece at zero fields, and that there are no singularities at finite field. We also study the quantum response in Floquet states. We argue, and give numerical evidence, that Chern numbers for eigenvectors of finite dimensional Floquet operators are generically zero.

Finite temperature correlation function of two dissipative massive scalar fields: Thermofield approach
The present paper aims at investigating the manner of two dissipative massive scalar fields. Two massive scalar fields that interact with a reservoir were considered and a reservoir was modeled by continuum Klein-Gordon fields. The Lagrangian of the total system was canonically quantized and the dynamics of the system was determined using the Euler-Lagrange equation. Then, the explicit form of the...
متن کاملQuantum Response at Finite Fields and Breakdown of Chern Numbers
We show that the response to an electric field, in models of the Integral Quantum Hall effect, is analytic in the field and has isolated essential singularity at zero field. We also study the breakdown of Chern numbers associated with the response of Floquet states. We argue, and give evidence, that the breakdown of Chern numbers in Floquet states is a discontinuous transition at zero field. Th...
متن کاملAC transport with reservoirs of finite width
The linear response conductance coefficients are calculated in the scattering approach at finite frequency, damping and magnetic field for a microstructure in which the reservoirs are modeled as quantum wire leads of infinite length but finite width. Independently of frequency, inelastic scattering causes subbands with large group velocity to contribute more strongly to the conductance than cha...

In recent years, semiconductor nanostructures have become the model systems of choice for investigation of electrical conduction on short length scales. Quantum transport is studied in a two dimensional electron gas because of the combination of a large Fermi wavelength and large mean free path. In the present work, a numerical method is implemented in order to contribute to the understanding ...
متن کاملProbing topological transitions in HgTe/CdTe quantum wells by magneto-optical measurements
In two-dimensional topological insulators, such as inverted HgTe/CdTe quantum wells, helical quantum spin Hall (QSH) states persist even at finite magnetic fields below a critical magnetic field Bc, above which only quantum Hall (QH) states can be found. Using linear-response theory, we theoretically investigate the magnetooptical properties of inverted HgTe/CdTe quantum wells, both for infinit...
